PTFE‑coated glass fabric is used in packaging equipment to provide a nonstick, heat‑resistant, and dimensionally stable surface that provides excellent heat transfer wherever plastic films are heated, pressed, or sealed. Its role is to ensure clean sealing, smooth release of film, and reliable operation at production speeds.
1. Shrink Wrapping and Heat‑Sealing Toilet and Kitchen Paper
In toilet and kitchen paper wrapping machines, large, soft bundles are wrapped in PE or PP film and sealed at high speed. PTFE‑coated glass fabric allows sealing to occur without the film sticking to hot machine components.
Used on:
- Sealing jaw covers for end and side seals.
- Continuous heat-sealing belts in side‑seal units.
- Impulse seal wire covers before the shrink tunnel.
2. Continuous Welding Units for PE/PP Bags (Lollies, Snacks, Confectionery)
For pillow packs and bagged confectionery, films are sealed continuously along the length of the pack. PTFE‑coated glass fabric provides a stable, nonstick interface that provides excellent heat transfer during constant heat application.
Used on:
- PTFE‑coated fabric strips over continuous welding or band sealing units.
- Heat sealing belts that press and seal running film edges.
3. Shrink Packaging Fruit in a Tunnel Oven
Fruit and produce are often shrink‑wrapped to protect and stabilise packs. The film is sealed, then passed through a heated tunnel where it shrinks tightly around the product. PTFE‑coated glass fabric belts can withstand oven temperatures and prevents hot film from sticking to the belt, while silicone coated fabric curtains minimise heat loss from either end of the tunnel.
Used on:
- Conveyor belts carrying produce through the shrink tunnel.
- Heat curtains at tunnel entrances and exits.
- Release surfaces near preshrink sealing stations.
4. Heat Sealing Film on Precooked Ready Meals
Ready meals are sealed with a plastic film to trays, requiring precise heat and pressure to achieve a hygienic, consistent seal. PTFE‑coated glass fabric ensures clean release from sealing tools.
Replaceable PTFE-coated glass fabric offers faster maintenance, more consistent non-stick performance, and improved hygiene since it can be easily removed, inspected, and replaced without long downtime. In contrast, sprayed PTFE coatings wear unevenly, are harder to maintain, and often leading to higher lifecycle costs due to recoating and production interruptions.
Used on:
- Sealing jaw covers on tray sealing machines.
- Release sheets between heated platens and lidding film.
- Curtains to maintain heat.
Summary
Across all these applications, PTFE‑coated glass fabric acts as a critical interface material—not a structural part—helping packaging machines seal reliably, run cleaner, and maintain consistent product quality under heat and pressure.
